4th Annual Gaines Lecture Series

World renowned lecturer and African Americanist, Dr. Thadious Davis, (Professor of American Social Thought and English at The University of Pennsylvania) is the honored speaker for the Fourth Annual Ernest J. Gaines Lecture. This lecture will be held  on Thursday, October 27, 2016, at 11:00 am in the Ernest J. Gaines Center Hallway; which is located on the third floor of the Edith Garland Dupré Library,at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. Dr. Davis’s lecture is titled “The Afterlives of Southern Rememory: Ernest J. Gaines Narratology.”

Dr. Davis has published numerous articles on the work of the Esteemed Ernest J. Gaines throughout her career and was a part of a esteemed panel of lectures for a nationally funded summer institute entitled “Ernest J. Gaines and the Southern experience” which was Hosted by The Ernest J. Gaines Center (Summer 2016).  Please join us for this event! 

Dr. Thadious Davis is a Gaines Scholar who received her Ph.D from Boston University. She teaches on the studies of African American literature and Southern literature. Davis has lectured in Europe and Asia, while mostly touching on the topics of race, region, and gender. She is the author of Southscapes: Geographies of Race, Region, and Literature (2011), Games of Property: Law, Race, Gender, and Faulkner’s Go Down, Moses (2003), and Faulkner’s “Negro”: Art and the Southern Context (1982).
